The graphic novel with a human rights theme was I Am Alfonso Jones. I chose this book because it was centered around a child. As a childhood education major, this book caught my eye because it is written for young readers and also focuses on police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. The writing style of this also intrigued me because it is written for young children. Alfonso Jones was a young boy who was affected by police brutality and was killed. This was caused by an assumption of a weapon although he was not grabbing a weapon. This shows that because of his skin color he was judged and killed. This form of a graphic novel makes learning about complex topics more accessible because it allows teachers and parents to introduce these topics to their young children rather than learning about it in high school history class.
